Why are you taking pictures of my kid?

Don’t worry, I’m not — it’s about the playground.

Letzte Plaetze (Last Places) is an archive of interesting playgrounds in Germany. It is a retrospective on Spielplatzkulture (playground culture) and how it’s shaped the public realm.

Growing up in Canada I witnessed first hand the modernization of playgrounds, where iconic and patina rich play places were replaced by static, plastic and unexceptional modern playgrounds.

In Germany unique and rich playgrounds dot the countryside and communities. I’m capturing the character of these public spaces so that one day, should any meet the same fate as the rickety behemoths I grew up enjoying, they are remembered.

Know someone who would enjoy these public wonders?
